CARING FOR CARERS AFFECTED BY ADDICTION

Here at SAPS many of our staff members have first hand experience of caring for a loved one with a substance misuse problem. We have many years experience of working with carers and dealing with the issues they face. Coming soon to the website will be a full staff profile and some lovely pics of them... we believe its much easier when you can put a name to a face :-)

It can often be hard to express how difficult and frustrating it can be to care for someone who is addicted to the drugs or alcohol or use them in such a way that causes problems within the relationship. Some of the carers who came to our service have been kind enough to share some of their experiences in the form of short stories and poems. SERVICES

Here at SAPS we aim to offer a holistic service to ensure carers needs are met. All carers are offered a service menu so they can 'pick and mix' things which we have found to be helpful for people caring for a loved one. The services we aim to offer are:

  • One to one support
  • Group sessions
  • Telephone Support
  • Counselling
  • Coffee mornings
  • Education sessions
  • Awareness sessions
  • Reflexology
  • Indian Head Massage
  • Family Mediation
  • Advice on housing, debt and employment
  • Esteem and Confidence Building Groups
  • Volunteering Opportunities
  • Access to respite and a wide range of other services

Caring about someone who has a drug or alcohol problem has been described by some of the carers coming to our service as the most challenging, frustrating, stressful and hard time of their lives. At SAPS we work hard to find out what the problems are and how we can best help.
